📓 Notebook Organization
Notebooks, Sections & Pages
1
Structure is Notebook → Section Group → Section → Page → Subpage — think of it like a real binder with tabbed dividers
2
Right-click a section tab to set a color, making visual scanning faster across many sections
3
Drag pages into the indented position below another page to make it a subpage
4
Use one notebook per major area of life/work (Personal, Work Project A, Study) rather than one giant notebook for everything
5
Click anywhere on a page to start typing — OneNote uses a free-form canvas, not a linear document

✏️ Drawing & Ink
Handwriting & Sketching
1
The Draw tab works with a mouse, touchscreen, or stylus — great for diagrams, mind maps, and annotating screenshots
2
Use Ink to Text to convert handwriting into typed text automatically
3
Lasso Select lets you grab and move hand-drawn ink strokes just like typed objects
4
OneNote can search handwritten text inside images too — right-click an image → "Make Text in Image Searchable"
🎙️ Audio, Video & Math
Audio Recording Synced to Notes
1
Insert → Record Audio to capture a lecture or meeting while you type notes
2
Click any line of typed notes later, then hit play — OneNote jumps to the exact audio moment when you wrote that note
3
Perfect for capturing class lectures, client calls, or interviews without losing context
Math Assistant
1
Draw tab → Math → hand-write or type an equation and OneNote recognizes it
2
Get step-by-step solutions for algebra, calculus, trigonometry, and more
3
Can graph functions directly from a recognized equation
👥 Sharing & Sync
Sharing a Notebook
1
File → Share invites others to a notebook with view or edit permissions, just like Word/Excel
2
Every notebook lives in OneDrive or SharePoint by default — multiple people can edit the same notebook at once with automatic sync
3
Teams channels automatically get a shared Class/Team Notebook accessible from the channel's tabs
4
Works fully offline — changes sync automatically once you're back online, with conflicts shown side-by-side if they occur
🛠️ Troubleshooting
Common OneNote Problems
1
Notebook won't sync: Right-click the notebook name → Sync This Notebook, or check status icons in the bottom-left corner
2
Missing notebook: File → Open Notebook → check if it's listed under "Recent Notebooks" or browse OneDrive directly
3
Two Different OneNote apps confusion: "OneNote" (Store app, included with Windows) and "OneNote for Windows" / desktop (Office install) can behave slightly differently — the desktop version has more features
4
Search not finding old notes: Give OneNote time to finish indexing in the background, especially after adding a large notebook
